KiNBY didn't start as a company. It started the day I became a caregiver.
More than two decades ago, I became a caregiver.
Like so many families, I quickly discovered that caregiving is about so much more than doctor's appointments and medications. It means managing hundreds of small details every single day — and those details matter.
To someone looking in from the outside, these may seem like ordinary tasks. To a caregiver, they're often the first signs that something is changing.
Even a slight increase in temperature, a change in heart rate, a restless night, or a subtle shift in behaviour can be the beginning of something much bigger. Recognizing those patterns early can make all the difference.
Consistency matters just as much. Families rely on nurses, PSWs, respite workers, and other caregivers to work together as one team. Everyone needs to know what happened on the last shift, what protocols to follow, what medications were given, and what worked — or didn't. Good communication isn't just helpful. It's essential to safe, consistent care.
For families in Ontario's Family Managed Home Care program, caregiving reaches far beyond medical care. We become recruiters, schedulers, trainers, supervisors, payroll administrators, and record keepers.
We manage staff credentials, schedule shifts, track hours, process payroll, keep documentation, and prepare the paperwork Ontario Health atHome requires — all while continuing to provide care every single day.
Over the years, together with the nurses and caregivers on our team, I began building small tools to help our family stay organized. A better chart. A medication tracker. A scheduling system. A caregiver handbook. A way to watch for trends. A place to keep the information that mattered. Every new challenge inspired another solution.
Eventually I realized something important.
Every family's story is different — but the challenges we face are remarkably the same.
We all want to spend less time searching for information, chasing paperwork, documenting every detail, and worrying about what might be forgotten — and more time simply being a parent, a spouse, a son, a daughter, or a friend.
KiNBY was created to bring those tools together in one place.
It isn't just another app or another website. It's a growing home for practical tools, trusted resources, and shared knowledge — designed by someone who understands this life because I've lived it.
Whatever your family is carrying, it's meant to feel like one place, not a dozen:
But KiNBY isn't finished — and I hope it never is. The best ideas rarely come from software developers. They come from caregivers solving real problems, one day at a time. Many of the tools here exist because another caregiver asked, "Wouldn't it be nice if…"
If there's something your family needs that isn't here yet, I hope you'll reach out. Let's build a place together that we can all use to help our lives run more efficiently.
Because every caregiver is a true hero. And I'm committed to giving those heroes a sidekick they can trust.
That's the promise KiNBY is built on, and the one I intend to keep.
